Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25, 1994) is a retired American artistic gymnast and two-time Olympian. She was captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, which have won individual team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London, she won gold medals in both floor and team events, as well as the bronze medal for the balance beam, making her the most well-known American gymnast to compete at the Games. She received an Olympic gold medal for team competitions during the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas, her teammate, also took home gold. Raisman also took home silver medals for individual all-around, as well as for the floor exercise. Raisman also earned silver medals for the individual all around and for floor exercise. She was also two-time national champion in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) and was the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She is also the reigning national champion for five consecutive years in all-around at national championships (silver, bronze, 2010 2011 and 2012 and). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, who was a former gymnast at high school and Rick Raisman, on May 25 1994 in Needham. She has three siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction from being able to not just represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish community throughout the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She attributes her early attraction to the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She studied at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until Level 8. After that, she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year through online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
