Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1937 - August 17 in 2015) was an American dancer and actress famous for her part as Batgirl in the 1960s' television series Batman as well as her role as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969). The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer in female superheroes" on the television. Yvonne Craig was born and was raised in Taylorville, Illinois. In 1951 , her family moved from Illinois to Dallas. There , she was a student at W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas and Sunset High School. However she didn't get a degree because she did not have "one PE credit". Craig was a part of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in the role of youngest corps de ballerina after being recognized by Alexandra Danilova who is a instructor and dancer. It was an excellent training which helped her to perform stunts in the role of Batgirl. In 1957 she left the ballet company due to disputes regarding casting changes. She then moved to Los Angeles with the hope of pursuing her dance career. However, she discovered herself in film roles. She was first seen in an TV episode of Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later was appointed Batgirl's Police Commissioner James Gordon. After her appearances in The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959), and Gidget (all 1958) she was also a guest on Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig appeared with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) as well as in Seven Women from Hell (1961) featured alongside Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as guest in the Western Laramie episode "The Long Road Back". Craig also starred with Elvis Presley in the roles of was at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (64). She also starred in the science-fiction film Mars Needs Women (1966) and was in In Like Flint (1967) as a Russian ballet dancer alongside James Coburn.
