Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a
French actress from France. She was a student at the Cours Florent drama
school, Paris. She has been in movies such as Loup 2009, Sleepless Night 2011
and Hacker's Game 2015. She plays the Mantis character in the Marvel Cinematic
Universe film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). Avengers: Infinity War
(2018). Avengers: Endgame (2019). Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City,
Canada, to the parents of a Korean mother and French-Russian father who was
employed there as a consul with the French government. Eugene Klementieff was
her grandfather. Her parents picked the name "Pom" due to the fact
that it's identical in pronunciation to Korean words for "spring" and
"tiger". Klementieff was an American citizen for one year. Her family
had travelled extensively due to her father's work. They resided in Japan and
the Ivory Coast, before settling in France. Her father was diagnosed with
cancer when she was five and her mother suffered from schizophrenia and could
not care for children, so Klementieff was cared for by her paternal uncle and
aunt. Her uncle, who she described as "like [her] father", died at 18
years old. Her brother, who was older who committed suicide years later, was
her aunt. Klementieff had the opportunity to pursue law school after the
passing of her uncle. However, she did not find this job path appealing. She
was also a waitress and saleswoman in France. At the Cours Florent drama
academy in Paris the actress began her journey into acting when she was 19.
After completing her education she was awarded a competition in theater that
offered her two years of tuition along with the most renowned instructors at
the school. Klementieff was the first actress to perform professionally in the
independent French film Apres lui (2007). She played the role of the
stepdaughter for the protagonist, Catherine Deneuve. The production of the film
took three days. In one scene, Klementieff was to be pushed down a set of
stairs but she fell down the stairs herself and director Gael Morel filmed that
scene for the final film. Loup (2009), a French film about Siberian reindeer
herders, was her first significant role. The filming took place in a camping
area, which was hours away from the nearest village where temperatures dropped
to below zero.
